About the Workshop
With the Australian Curriculum promoting the development of inquiry skills, teachers require a tool box of strategies to turn their classrooms into effective learning hubs. Inquiry learning requires teachers to run student-centred hands-on activities, facilitate in-depth classroom conversations and become co-learners alongside their students. It’s a world away from ‘chalk and talk’ teaching, requiring strong student engagement and radically different classroom management strategies.

In this engaging, hands-on workshop, Dr Allen models student-centred strategies that harness the latest research in educational psychology.

You will learn how to:

  • Capture and hold your students attention through highly engaging lesson ideas
  • Harness movement and social interaction to support inquiry learning
  • Elicit thoughtful responses and productive conversations during group discussions
  • Make sure all student voices are heard
  • Give effective directions to get students organised quickly and keep them on task
  • Use the power of music to energize activities – and enhance learning
  • Incorporate positive behaviour techniques to engage all students
  • Implement effective memory strategies to assist students with knowledge retention
  • Tap into, rather than push down, the energy in your classroom to generate positive learning outcomes
